Dalat - The City of Flowers

Dalat is a “miniature Paris” in the tropics that attracted visitors with wonderful landscapes and historical relics. Nature has granted Dalat a graceful beauty making it an ideal tourist destination and Dalat is most impressive as a city of flowers.

The flower garden at the end of Xuan Huong Lake, about 2km from Dalat next to the Cu Hill, is vivid. It was known as Bich Cau Garden before 1986, when it was renamed the Flower Park of Dalat City.

The Flower Park is a flower museum of sorts. The gate of the park is decorated with various types of fresh flowers, while the park houses an enormous collection of more than 300 varieties of strange and enchanting flowers from Dalat. Visitors are often surprised at the wide range of roses and other flowers here. In addition to various types of Vietnamese flowers, the park showcases special types of flower of other countries such as Dutch tulip, Japanese chrysanthemum, and camellia. The park has a special section for hundreds of varieties of orchid. Visitors can also find various types of bonsai trees. All of these attractions make Dalat enchanting in the eyes of visitors. It is said that looking at the flowers in Dalat, visitors will imagine beautiful girls who are in love.

Another famous park in Dalat is Minh Tam, where visitors can admire the beauty of its mimosas - the symbolic flower of Dalat. Unlike roses, mimosas have a simple, understated beauty. Beside the flower park and the Minh Tam Park, visitors can see flowers springing out of almost every corner of Dalat. Flowers are one of the most successful tourist products of Dalat and Tay Nguyen (Central Highlands).

The Culture and Information Department of Lam Dong Province will hold Dalat Flower Festival from 10 to 18 December, 2005 which called back my memories of Dalat's fascinating flowers. This will be a national cultural and tourist activity, which is expected to attract many of international visitors. The theme of the festival is "Dalat - The City of Flowers".
