Vietnam Airlines to start direct U.S. flights next year

Vietnam’s national flag carrier is currently in negotiations to begin launching direct flights to the U.S. in mid-2006, according to airline officials May 27.

Currently in negotiations with regional countries to find a stopover on the route, Vietnam Airlines would start the direct air link mid next year, deputy chief executive Pham Ngoc Minh told the press.

Vietnam is in negotiations with South Korea, China and Japan to bring the air route to reality, he said.

The number of American visitors to Vietnam has in the past few years grown substantially, by 15 to 20% each year, according to Vietnam Airlines.
